In a truly stunning development, the ratings for president Obama's recent appearance on CNN's morning show are out, and there was hardly any gain in views for the program during the interview. As is now customary, the CNN program came in third among the cable news morning show, running far behind the Fox News offering and not even matching the MSNBC show. These are horrible numbers for CNN, particularly since the interview with Chris Cuomo was hyped endlessly in all sorts of places prior to its airing.
While the ratings are a blow to CNN, they are also a major comment on Obama's own ability to draw viewers. It is hard to imagine that the president of the United States could not even draw enough people to make the show number one among cable news in the time slot. Sure, there are many around the country who would not care to watch a news interview, but we are now talking only about the folks who were watching news at that hour. Even they did not tune in to see and hear Obama.
The truth is that after listening to Obama campaign endlessly in speeches and interviews for five years (and the two year campaign before that), most of America has Obama fatigue. There is really no reason to hear Obama say the same thing for the fiftieth time. The first forty-nine times are sufficient.
