President Obama took questions from the press corps this afternoon at the White House. Sadly, while he took questions and then spoke, he really did not answer the questions that were asked. The whole process was more like a reporter asked a question that brought up a subject and then Obama went through his talking points that were relevant to that subject.
Here's an example: Obama was asked about his unilateral decision to delay implementation of part of Obamacare and whether or not that could lead to a future president deciding to just stop the program on his or her own. In fifteen minutes of talking about Obamacare, all the Obama said about the question is that he had authority to do it. Of course, Obama had no such authority. The president does not get to choose which laws he wants to enforce; he has to enforce all of them.
Obama was also asked about his prior claims that al Qaeda was decimated. In responding to that question, he actually made up stuff that changed what he had previously said on the subject.
If there cannot be an honest exchange where answers truthfully reply to questions, why hold the press conference at all?
