Missing The Point -- No Surprise

Take a moment to consider this question.  Should people who work for congressmen and senators get government subsidies for their health care that are not available to the rest of Americans?

Now let's add in a bit more information to the question.  Should congressional staffers who make over $150,000 per year have the government give them a subsidy to cover 75% of the cost of their health insurance when other Americans who make only half that amount do not get the government subsidy?

Let's add in one more fact.  Should these well paid congressional staffers get this subsidy when the law itself does not provide for it?  Is it acceptable for president Obama to just announce that he will grant the subsidy when the clear import of the Obamacare law is to the contrary?

Not surprisingly, the overwhelming majority of Americans do not think that it is fair or even legal for Obama to defy the law and grant these subsidies to the political class.  Sadly, however, no one is yet doing anything about it.  Much of the commentary about Obama's granting of these illegal subsidies has been to discuss why they are needed in order to keep the best people working for Congress.  Really?  Shouldn't the issue be what is legal and what is fair?  Why does a congressional staffer making $150,000 per year deserve a subsidy more than someone working in an office outside of DC and making $50,000.  The truth is that neither people in the House or Senate nor the folks that work in their offices deserve special treatment.

The subsidies need to be rolled back.
