John Kerry Speaks about Syria

The Secretary of State, John Kerry, has spoken in Washington in a press briefing.  Kerry went on and on lamenting the use of chemical weapons in Syria.  He called it a moral obscenity.  He said that the attack by the Assad forces was real, compelling and unforgiveable.   He talked about the corroborating evidence which guarantees that it was the Assad forces who made this attack.

Kerry also said that additional information will be made public in the next few days to show the truth about the chemical attack.  He announced, however, that there is no question which side used the chemical weapons:  namely, the Assad forces.

Of course, at the end of these remarks Kerry said that president Obama and he are consulting with world leaders and considering what to do.  He gave no timetable for a decision; nor did he indicate any action that might be taken.

So what does this all mean?  First of all, the United States is now on record that it was the Assad forces who used chemical weapons in Syria.  That may not sound like much, but remember that it took Obama over a month to come to the same conclusion the last two times that Assad gassed his own people.  This is a clear positive.  Second, Obama is still looking for a way to avoid making a decision on a response to the chemical attack.  We are all told to just go into a holding pattern.  People die and we are told to wait.  People are poisoned and we are told to wait.  Little children are murdered in their sleep and we are told to wait.  The murderers laugh at the restrictions on chemical weapons and we are told to wait.  The Assad regime and the Iranians laugh at Obama and we are told to wait (okay, this last one I don't care that much about.  After all, I spend much of my time on this blog laughing at Obama.  It is just too easy.)

The time for waiting is over.
