President Obama has now put off for a year the limitations on lifetime and annual out of pocket caps on health insurance policies that are mandated by Obamacare. Supposedly, the insurance industry was not yet ready for them.
Now for the truth. Placing caps on the payouts from insurance policies means a big jump in premiums that must be paid. Once again, Obama is putting off the pain that will be inflicted on most Americans by Obamacare, and he is doing it in a totally unconstitutional way. The president does not have the right to just waive laws for a year. Clearly, Obama hopes that the 2014 elections will pass without a major loss by the Democrats because many folks will not know that the premium rise from Obamacare has, in part, been delayed until January of 2015.
This is just another part of the Obamacare law that the president has "delayed". The employer mandate already was put off for a year. The enforcement of the limitations on subsidies for individuals were also put off for the same period. In short, all the good things for most people are still left, but the items that allow the government to pay for these things have been postponed. On top of this, the security of the various exchanges will not be ready when they open even though millions of Americans will have their personal information kept by those exchanges. It will be a field day for fraud, identity theft and general waste.
Given the inability of the government to get ready for Obamacare in the many years since it was passed, it makes no sense to delay it only in part. Let's put the whole thing off for a year so that it can actually be gotten ready. I expect it to fail, but even so, it is better to have the government ready to implement the law than to watch various pieces of the law implode.
