There is a truly puzzling trend in the media today which needs some explanation. First let's start with the news nugget that brought all this on: the governor of Maine supposedly answered a question at some gathering in which he said that president Obama does not mention his mixed race parentage because Obama does not like white people. The response on the net has been just what you would expect. Places like Salon.com are literally shaking with rage at this "racist" statement. Imagine, the governor said that Obama does not like whites. But let's take a step back. These same people who are now expressing outrage are the people who said that Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and all sorts of other Republicans do not like blacks. Was that a racist attack? Not in the eyes of those who are now so outraged.
The truth is that it would serve the entire country well if the idiots stopped announcing that this or the other politician disliked on race or another. I think that reasonable people can agree that Obama does not dislike whites and the Republicans do not dislike blacks. Political differences and policy differences are real. Racial division, however, should not be stirred up for political gain. Sure, there will be those (like Al Sharpton) who cannot help themselves. Nevertheless, portraying issues as racial just makes things worse for everyone.
