Wow -- Not Even A Speech

President Obama is off on his campaign swing through Pennsylvania and New York.  He is once again running.  This time, he is running away from the duties and responsibilities of his office.  Right now, America faces a foreign policy crisis, one that Obama himself created.  Obama, instead of facing the problem, has boarded his campaign bus to make speeches about college rankings. Rumor is that next week Obama plans another trip, this time to speak about which brand of paper towel is more absorbent.

Look, it is one year ago that Obama, not anyone else, told the world that the use of chemical weapons by Syria would be crossing an American red line.  Obama did not have to announce that limit.  He could have pretended that Syria was an economic problem and just ignored it.  He could have pretended that Syria was a political problem and just blamed the Republicans for it.  He even could have pretended that Syria was a scandal and announced first that he would get to the bottom of it and then followed up by trying to cover it all up.  That is not what Obama did.  Our president told the world that the United States of America, the world's most powerful nation by far, considered the use of chemical weapons to be beyond the pale.  Our president told the world that were Syria to use chemical weapons there would be a strong and quick response to punish those responsible.

We all  know that nearly six months ago, the Assad regime in Syria carried out a test to see the reaction that the use of chemical weapons would cause.  The Assad forces hit two small targets with chemical weapons and then sat back to await the response.  That response never came.  Instead, the world was treated to the embarrassing spectacle of the White House announcing that it needed more information to determine whether or not chemical weapons had even been used.  Country after country examined the evidence and determined that Assad had used these terrible weapons, but not America.  France, Turkey, Israel and others announced that the evidence was convincing, but still Obama was silent so that America could gather evidence.  This charade went on for months until the White House finally announced that Assad forces indeed had used chemical weapons.  And then America did nothing.  NOTHING!!!

Now we have seen where that inaction led.  Something like another thousand people have died from the latest chemical attack launched by the Assad forces.  Assad and his Iranian backers know that the threat from Obama regarding consequences was an empty one.  There are no consequences to Assad's use of weapons of mass destruction against his own people.  Obama has managed to make the USA look impotent and dishonest.  Russia tells the world that the use of chemical weapons by their ally Assad was actually a provocation by the rebels.  Why not, there is not going to be an America response.  Syria and Iran deny that any chemical weapons were used.  Why not, there is not going to be an American response.  France and Turkey call  for a strong reaction to the use of the weapons, but they both hang back waiting for the Americans to lead.  But Obama does not even bother to lead from behind; he certainly is not out front.

Obama wanted to "fundamentally transform" America after he was elected.  Who knew that the transformation he would carry out would be to change the USA from the leader of the free world into an impotent sniveling giant ostrich sticking its head in the sand while the world burns.
