Rewriting Lincoln

At Gettysburg 150 years ago, Abraham Lincoln spoke of "government of the people, by the people and for the people."  It is one of his most eloquent moments, of which there are many.  Presidents and Congresses since that time have come close to that ideal, some doing better than others.  Right now, however, what we have is president Obama who is pushing for "government of my friends, by my friends and for my friends."  In the recent past Obama has removed the requirement that those in Congress and their staffs participate in the Obamacare exchanges; after all, we can't have Congress treated like ordinary folks.  Obama also "waived" the requirement that large businesses (from which he got the bulk of his campaign contributions) comply with the employer mandate of Obamacare.  Individuals and small businesses still have to comply, but the big boys don't.  Obama proposed a tax scheme that cuts rates only for big business.  Small businesses and regular folks need not apply.  Obama keeps pushing "green energy" initiatives that have so far pumped fifty billion dollars to people who, for the most part, have more political connections to the president than business acumen.  The list goes on and on.  If you are connected to Obama, i.e., if you are a "friend", Obama will protect you.  Otherwise, he could not care less about you.

It is sad that in 150 years we have sunk from eloquence to decadence.  It is truly a disgrace!
