Not Phony Scandal But Scandals about a Phony -- 2

Since he and his administration were buffeted by a seemingly endless list of scandals in the past few months, president Obama has recently begun calling them "phony" scandals.  At each on of his campaign style speeches of recent days, Obama has talks about the distractions that came from phony scandals.  We now have some feedback on how well that line has played with the American people.  The answer is that this move by Obama has been a failure.  Americans do not view any of the scandals as a failure; a majority of Americans, however, view Obama as a failure.

There is a recent poll which questions whether each of the main scandals was "serious" or "phony".  Here are the results:  For the NSA spying on Americans, 69% called it serious and 26% said it was phony.  For the probing into reporters like the AP and James Rosen, 59% said it was serious and 31% said it was phony.  For the IRS persecution of conservative groups, 59% said it was serious and 33% said it was phony.  For the Benghazi terror attack that left four Americans dead, 78% said it was serious and 17% said it was phony.  Even among Democrats, each of the scandals were rated higher as serious than phony.  For Benghazi fully 70% of the Democrats said it was serious.

These are terrible numbers for Obama.  The rest of the poll, however, makes things even worse for the president.  By 63 to 24 percent, Americans say that Obama should be working with Republicans to get things done rather than going on his speaking tour.  And about that tour, 71% of Americans say that they are "hearing nothing new" from Obama in his speeches.

The White House must have seen these numbers in its own polling.  That means that the reality of the scandals must be so bad and so damning for Obama that he is willing to keep up this failed line of response rather than just telling the truth to America.
