Iran -- Confirming the Obvious

We now have most of the details about the deal struck with Iran in Geneva.  Iran is allowed to continue to enrich uranium.  The Islamic Republic can purify its uranium supplies to a point which is close to being usable for nuclear weapons, but it has promised not to go beyond that point.  In exchange, there is a loosening of sanctions which will take away the pressure that the Iranian government was feeling from them.

Let's put this in context.  If there were an armed burglar in your home, would you make a deal with him that he could stay and could load his weapons so long as he promised not to point the gun at you?  Would you promise not to call the police in exchange for that deal?  In essence, that is just what president Obama has done.  Iran will move to a point about four weeks away from having nuclear weapons.  Iran will have ever larger supplies of enriched uranium that could quickly be made into nukes.  The West will reduce sanctions.  The reality is that we got a meaningless and unverifiable promise and we gave major relief to Iran.

I think I can hear the laughter coming from Teheran.
