Former president Bill Clinton was on the air yesterday lecturing president Obama about the need to keep his pledges to the American people. The best discussion of what Clinton had to say is this column by Michael Goodwin in the New York Post which is well worth reading. I will not try to improve on his commentary. On the other hand, it is worth discussing what Clinton's comments really mean for Obama. With his statements yesterday, Clinton was actually announcing to Democrats across the country that it is fine for them to come down on Obama for lying to the American people. After all, if Clinton is criticizing Obama, no one should get very upset if other, lesser names in the party do the same thing. The dam has now broken; expect a major torrent of criticism. My guess is that it will start at today's hearings in Washington when the project manager of the website development testifies.
Clinton's statements also make clear that he is acting to create distance between Obama and Hillary. Bill gets to criticize Obama and put a barrier between the Clintons and Obama and Hillary can stay on the sidelines with her mouth shut. She did not do anything, but she gets the benefit of running away from the Obamacare disaster.
