Today is Thanksgiving. That means that instead of analysis, argument or complaint, today at Connecticut Comments is just for giving thanks. So here goes.
First of all, let's be clear to whom we are giving thanks. As has been the case since the very first Thanksgiving all those centuries ago in New England, the point of the day is to give thanks to God for the blessings He has bestowed upon us.
1. Even after the poor economic times of the last five years, we still live in a land of plenty. Even poor Americans live much better than most of the people in the world.
2. We are blessed with liberty and freedom. We are part of that minority of humans who can speak our minds without fear of being imprisoned by the government. We can chose our own religions. We are protected by the law. The arbitrary actions of the government cannot control all of our lives.
3. As a nation, we are relatively healthy. Our medical care is the best in the world, although it is threatened by Obamacare.
4. For the most part, we get to choose the course of our own lives. We are not bound by castes or government restrictions. If we want to move, we can do so without permission from the government.
5. One last thing: there are only three more years of Obama as president.
