Wow! That did not take long! The supposed "fix" announced by president Obama at noon today which was supposed to allow Americans who like their old insurance plans possibly to keep them is already falling apart. Consider this:
1. The health insurance industry came out with a statement pointing out that what Obama proposed would not work and would likely lead to higher premiums for consumers in the future. You might say that you expected that response from those evil insurance companies if you buy into the story line that problems a primarily due to big business. But they are not alone.
2. The Commissioner of Insurance of the state of Washington has also issued a statement rejecting Obama's plan for the consumers of that state. The Commissioner is an elected position, and he is a Democrat. Indeed, he is a liberal Democrat, so he is part of Obama's natural constituency. Nevertheless, the Washington Commissioner rejected the fix because he says it would seriously unbalance the insurance market in the state. Just to be clear, this act by the state official means that Obama's proposed fix will have no effect of any sort in the state of Washington. It is inevitable that other Commissioners across America will follow the lead of the Washington official.
3. Various senators in the other Washington (Washington, DC) have been making statements that Obama's announced "fix" is just not adequate to protect the American public. These senators still want to go ahead with legislation that will achieve that goal. The majority of these statements have been coming from Democrats. While any such legislation may be prevented by Democrat leader Harry Reid, the unrest among Democrats in the Senate means that they understand that Obama's supposed fix will not work and will make things worse. The Democrats in the House and Senate will then have to deal with the tidal wave of anger coming from the America people once they realize that Obama was again playing fast and loose with them.
