The Endless Dishonesty Continues

The Drudge Report is highlighting an article about a speech by Michelle Obama at the moment.  The first lady spoke in New York at (of course) a fundraiser where discussed the need for health insurance for all.  Mrs. Obama does not want there to be an America in which someone is one illness away from bankruptcy.  I am prepared to assume that the first lady means well when she says this, but her argument is deeply dishonest and flawed.

The battle about Obamacare is not one fought over increasing insurance coverage.  It is not a bill where the Democrats want more people with coverage and the Republicans want fewer.  No, the battle about Obamacare has always been about whether it makes sense for the federal government to take control of the entire healthcare industry just to get a few million more people insured.  Remember, that is all that happens if Obamacare works as described (something that has yet to happen.)  Think of it.  When millions upon millions of policies in the private insurance sector of the market get cancelled, the folks at the White House say that it is only about 5% of the people who are affected.  That 5% is 16 million people.  We are told that it is just a small group.  On the other hand, if Obamacare works perfectly, there are only going to be about 15 million more people who will have insurance.  It's roughly the same number.  But now we are told that these 15 million people should never be forced to go without insurance.

It would always have been easier and much less expensive to buy insurance for the 15 million people than to inflict Obamacare upon the nation.  Somehow, though, the Democrats could not resist a supremely complicated scheme that now seems likely to destroy our entire healthcare system.
