For the last four years, pollsters have been periodically asking the public for their opinion of the Affordable Care Act the law which enacted Obamacare. During all that time, there have been more people who opposed the law than supported it. Since the rollout of the website and the unveiling of president Obama's lie that we could all keep our healthplans if we liked them, the polls have moved significantly.
At the start of October, when the website was just going live (or going dead if you prefer), the Rasmussen poll on point found 45% in favor of Obamacare and 49% opposed. Today, the latest poll from Rasmussen on point found 38% in favor of Obamacare and 58% opposed. That's a sixteen point swing in the margin in just six weeks. This is clearly big news for a number of reasons.
First, the polling is about an election campaign for which there is an avalanche of advertising. The subject is one that in normal times most folks pay no attention. A swing of this magnitude in such a short time means that the disaster of Obamacare has actually made its way into the consciousness of the American people.
Second, the numbers are getting so lopsided that Democrats up for re-election in 2014 will certainly notice. Indeed, that is why about one in five House Democrats voted for the Republican plan to let people keep their old health insurance plans. If the margins in these polls stays where it is or grows bigger, we will likely see some of the Democrats flipping sides and calling for repeal.
