Will President Obama Recover From Obamacare?

Much is being written these days about the collapse of president Obama's poll numbers.  Obama's approval ratings are in the area of just 40% and they seem to be heading lower in multiple polls.  Obama is also viewed as untrustworthy and dishonest by a majority of Americans for the first time in his presidency.  (One could wonder what took these folks so long.)  The political pundits are busy giving opinions as to whether or not Obama's ratings will continue down or if they will rebound.  The most common "rebound" argument that we hear is that once the exchange website begins to function properly, stories about people who are doing better than before because of Obamacare will be heard in the land and more folks will come back to supporting Obama himself.  While this argument has a nice ring to it, it actually is ignoring reality, and it is reality that will decide the future of Obama's ratings.

Let's start with a few facts:

1.  Obama has been revealed to most Americans as a liar.  He did not make a mistake.  He was not unaware of what he was saying.  He could not have believed that his claims were true.  Obama knew that millions upon millions of folks would be forced from their plans, but he said the contrary.  Obama knew that millions upon millions of people would lose their current doctors, but he said the contrary.  Obama knew that costs for health insurance would necessarily skyrocket once all the Obamacare mandates and restrictions were put in place, but he told America that we would save $2500 on our insurance.  Obama knew that Obamacare would cost the Treasury trillions of dollars over time, but he actually told us that it would do the opposite and reduce the deficit.  None of the "good" news stories about a few people saving money will remove or reduce Obama's lies.  Millions will still lose their policies.  Millions will still lose their doctors.  The cost of insurance for the majority of Americans will go up substantially.  The deficit will increase due to Obamacare.  And these lies will continue to be exposed in story after story after story.  The combined weight of Obama's dishonesty will far outweigh any good news about some people who get insurance.

2.  The five million people whose policies have been cancelled so far are just a small portion of the likely hundred million policies that will be ultimately cancelled during the next year.  This change will upset enough people that Obama's approval ratings will never recover.

3.  The insurance available through the Obamacare exchanges is substandard.  Contrary to the constant statements of the Democrats, coverage under Obamacare is not as good as the coverage that most people with standard sorts of policies now have.  Remember, Obamacare policies almost all have huge deductibles.  For the average American, a policy that only kicks in once you have spent six thousand dollars during the year on healthcare is the equivalent of not having insurance at all.  The policies that I have seen have deductibles of this sort.  Many policies focus either towards good coverage for prescriptions or for doctors but not both.  Again, a policy that helps with a doctor but then provides little help for the medicine is a big step down from what most people now have.

4.  The ongoing cost increases that Obamacare is going to engender will hit year after year after year.  Each time costs soar, Obama and the Democrats will get the blame.

In short, Obama is not going to recover from this.  He is going to be remembered as the president who nearly destroyed healthcare for most Americans.
