It's Good To Be A Kennedy

Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of president John F. Kennedy.  President Obama put a floral wreath on Kennedy's grave the other day in memory of JFK.  Obama was joined by Bill Clinton in that appearance.  Even 50 years after his death, Kennedy still seems to have quite a hold on Democrats and the media.  Think about it.

First of all, Obama was too "busy" to celebrate the 150th anniversary of perhaps the greatest oration in our history, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.  That address puts forth one of the key messages in all American history and set the stage for the fight for freedom for at least a century after that.  Obama could not be bothered to commemorate the anniversary, but there was no way he could miss the Kennedy commemoration.  Don't get me wrong.  Kennedy deserves to be remembered, but his death was not the important part of his presidency.  On the other hand, Gettysburg is one of the seminal events of American history.

Second, Caroline Kennedy just arrived in Japan as the American ambassador to that country.  Really?  Obama appointed her an ambassador just because of who her father was.  She has no record of achievement, no real accomplishments on her own.  Nevertheless, she is a celebrity, and for Obama, that is a big deal.

Third, within the last hour, Michael Skakel, the nephew of Robert Kennedy, was granted bail after over a decade in prison for the murder of Martha Moxley.  Skakel is getting a new trial because of the purported incompetence of his counsel at trial.  Of course, Skakel's counsel was the most well known and high profile defense attorney in the state at the time of the trial.  Is this yet another instance of the Kennedy name giving benefits to yet another family member who does not deserve any?
