Not Worth The Teleprompter It's Written On

If you think about the issues which align the interests of America and Israel, few are as important as the Iranian nuclear weapons program.  A nuclear armed Iran is a huge threat to both the USA and Israel.  The mullahs in Teheran would gladly use nukes to attack each of the two countries.  That is true even if such an attack brought a severe response.  After all, in the eyes of the mullahs, all those who dies in Iran would be martyrs who would be rewarded in paradise after death.  The turmoil might even lead the to return of the hidden Imam and all it symbolizes.  So, if you were the leader of Israel, you would expect that Israel and the USA would see eye to eye on the need to keep Iran from getting those nukes.

This is why the latest cave by president Obama in the negotiations with Iran is so unsettling to America's alliance with Israel.  Israeli prime minister Netanyahu now knows without a doubt that Israel cannot rely on the United States so long as Obama is in charge.  Think about it.  There are many times when Israel is asked to go along with America's point of view in exchange for an America promise about something.  Why would Israel ever believe such a promise when, in an instance where the interests of the two countries are clearly aligned, the US still does something bizarre and contrary to the interests of both nations.

In a strange sort of coincidence, the Israelis are seeing Obama's promises to keep them safe from Iran much the same way that the American people are seeing Obama's promises that they can keep their health plans if they like them.  In short, Obama's promises are not worth the teleprompter they are written on.
