Obama's Folly

The Democrats in the Senate are about to filibuster a vote on the Iran deal negotiated by president Obama.  That means that there won't even be a vote taken in the Senate on this major agreement, perhaps the most important part of Obama foreign activities as president.

It is an outrage that this deal would be approved with NO vote.  According to Pew Research, as of this week, the Iran deal is supported by 21% of the American people.  That's right; it is not a typo.  Only TWENTY-ONE percent of the American people support the Iran deal.  Among those who are familiar with the deal, fully 57% oppose it.  Despite this clear lack of support, Obama and the Democrats are trying to prevent any vote on the agreement.

On top of this lack of support, there is also the matter that Obama did not even honor his obligations with regard to the deal.  According to the law, Congress was supposed to get full copies of the deal including all side agreements, annexes and related documents.  Obama did not turn over the secret side agreements involving the IAEA and Iran.  The truth is that the time for approval or rejection of the deal has not really begun to run yet.  Congress would be well within its rights to refuse to remove the sanctions on Iran and to demand that Obama enforce them still.

Just imagine what is going to happen in the next year and a half.  If Iran goes ahead and violates the agreement (which is almost a certainty), the Democrats will be left as the party that forced the deal through over the opposition of the American people only to be embarrassed by Iran's expected conduct.
