Earlier this week, the Democrats blocked a bill that would have funded the Defense Department for the next year. It had none of the hot button issues in it that we read about in the media. There were no funding cut offs for Planned Parenthood or changes to funding for Obamacare. There was just regular appropriations for the Defense Department. Nevertheless, the Democrats blocked the bill because they want to make sure that none of the government is funded when the vote on the Planned Parenthood funding cutoff comes up. I wrote about this before, but here's the point today: the media did not cover the story. If you google "democrats block vote Defense Department", only one story comes up on point. It is the report in The Hill on what happened. Not a single one of CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post or any of the other mainstream media outlets bothered even to report what had happened.
Imagine for a moment if it had been Republicans blocking a bill to fund the military. There would be endless coverage of the "government shutdown". Most likely, CNN and MSNBC would have gone to 24 hour coverage of nothing else. For CNN it could be the biggest story since the Malaysian airliner went down.
Many of the politicians in Washington are scum. It's a sad thing to say, but it's true. Nevertheless, compared to those same politicians, the media is much, much worse.
