Rubio Rises

It was worth a chuckle this morning to see the headline on leftist Yahoo News that with Scott Walker's departure, the GOP presidential race had come down to Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio as the "establishment" candidate.  It showed a remarkable lack of insight into the race.  Yahoo News, of course, sees everything from the perspective of what might help the Democrats or hurt the Republicans, but it still ought to have some idea of who the candidates are.

Marco Rubio is NOT an establishment candidate.  He never has been.  In 2010, when he was elected to the senate, he beat the establishment candidate in the primary and then he beat the establishment Democrat in the general election.  Bush, on the other hand, is part and parcel of the establishment.

What Rubio is, however, is a really good candidate.  At the first two debates, he outshone every other person there except for Fiorina.  Of course, at the first debate, those two weren't on the same stage.  Rubio has made clear that he has some really great qualities:  1) He is knowledgeable about the problems facing America.  Unlike some of the others, Rubio will be ready on day one.  2) He has insights how to handle those problems.  3) He is a really good communicator.  4) He has a commitment to Conservative ideas that won't disappear if he gets elected.  5) He presents the perfect visual contrast to the tired visage of Hillary Clinton or one of the septuagenarians that are the alternatives for the Democrats.  6) He has a deep commitment to the concept of providing people with the opportunity to make their own lives better.

Maybe that is why Yahoo is now calling him "establishment".  It could be their way of trying to hurt him.
