The other night, Hillary Clinton sat down for an interview with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. I just want to focus on one thing that Hillary said. She discussed the problems at the Veterans Administration hospitals and made these points:
1. Veterans who receive care from the VA are very satisfied with the service.
2. The supposed big problems at the VA are mostly the result political attacks leveled by Republicans.
3. The actual problems at the VA are not nearly as widespread as the coverage would have one believe.
So there we are, once again, with Hillary denying the existence of a major problem and instead saying that the Republicans are playing up a minor problem. Now Hillary playing politics is nothing new. Neither is it new for Hillary Clinton to avoid the truth in her statements. This is, however, the first time where I have seen Hillary want to shortchange the nation's veterans in order to score a political point.
The veterans who get care at the VA are men and women who put their lives on the line for this country. We promised them health care. What we have given them is long wait time to even see a doctor and a system devoted to making things look good rather than be good. How can Clinton not understand that a medical system that makes vets wait up to a year for an appointment is the same as no medical system at all. Suppose you were sick with cancer or heart disease but were then told just to wait and wait and wait until it was too late to help. We owe these people better care. And then for Hillary to claim that the problem is the people who are complaining about the failures of the system is the ultimate insult to our veterans.
Hillary has really gone too far this time.
