Last Saturday, I wrote about the disgusting response in the media to some rather simple and correct statements made by Dr. Ben Carson. Carson was asked about a point he had made regarding gun control, and he repeated his position that during World War II, had the Nazis not taken away all guns held by Jews, it would have been much harder for the Nazis to succeed in killing so many. It's not a very remarkable thought. Millions of armed people would have been much harder to kill than millions of unarmed people.
The media response and that of the liberal gun control advocates has been to treat Carson's statement as bizarre and Carson as deranged for making it. Today, that attack continues. Eugene Robinson, the liberal hack columnist has a column entitled "Ben Carson is a Crackpot". Not too subtle, huh? Robinson doesn't bother to respond to what Carson actually said. Instead, he argues that letting the Jews of Germany keep their weapons would not have prevented the Nazis from killing Jews. Carson, of course, spoke about the Jews of Europe, not just Germany. Carson also said that fewer armed Jews would have been killed, not that none would have been murdered by the Nazis. The problem Robinson faced, of course, is that there really is no answer to what Carson actually said. So, Robinson first changed Carson's statement into something clearly wrong and then he responded to say that the distorted statement was wrong. As a result, Carson is now called a crackpot.
Why is it so hard for the gun control advocates to admit that there are instances where gun confiscation has led to some pretty terrible results? Why must they argue this issue by attacking people who speak the truth instead of arguing the merits of the issue?
The truth is that people like Eugene Robinson are just dishonest. They know they cannot win the argument on the actual facts, so they distort and argue on emotions and lies.
