In The New Republic today, there is an article under the headline: "The Adults Take The Stage". It is written by the far leftist Brian Beutler. It is his attempt, in advance of the Democrat debate tomorrow, to justify the lack of an audience like that which watched the first two Republican debates. Supposedly, the Democrats are going to be boring because they are the "adults" and no one will be interested in watching an adult conversation about the nation's problems. According to Beutler, people would rather watch the outrageous antics of the juvenile Republican candidates.
It's bad enough to read a snarky and snobbish bit or nonsense by a self proclaimed expert on the mental age of the various candidates. It is much worse, that Beutler just makes up lies about the Republicans to justify himself. Here are a few examples:
Beutler claims that in 2012, the Republicans "cheered the proposition that the uninsured poor should be left to die." That's not only untrue; it's ridiculous.
Beutler says that " two doctors (Rand Paul and Ben Carson) declined to correct and admonish Trump for suggesting a link between vaccines and autism." Now it is possible that Beutler did not understand what Carson had to say, but I heard him explain that there was a large amount of data that showed that there is no correlation whatsoever between vaccinations and autism. Maybe Beutler got fooled because Carson went on to say that there are some who think that it might be better to space out the vaccinations over a longer period of time. In the adult language used by scientists and doctors, Carson did exactly what Beutler claims he did not.
Beutler says that "burnished her credibility with conservatives by fabricating a ghoulish summary of Planned Parenthood sting footage." That's also untrue. Beutler might not like what Carly had to say, but she fabricated nothing. I wonder if Beutler ever bothered to actually watch the disgusting videos about the sale of baby parts by Planned Parenthood. My guess is no.
I am not going to go through all of the examples. Suffice to say that trying to justify low ratings for the Democrats by telling lies about what the Republicans said just won't work. There really is a reason for the low ratings for the Democrats:
1. No one, in his or her right mind, would want to watch Hillary Clinton speak about anything for two hours. One can only take so much phoniness each day. After that, nausea becomes likely.
2. No on could want to listen to Bernie Sanders' delusional fantasies about how leftist policies will help America. We have all seen what the past seven years have done to us. We know the reality of the economic devastation that those policies bring.
3. Only a fool would want to listen to O'Malley, Webb or Chaffee if it is not required. It would be not only boring, but meaningless too.
Obviously, Beutler couldn't say the truth, so he got stuck making stuff up.
