Creating Fear Where It Ought Not To Be

After the Oklahoma "workplace violence" in which an Islamic crazy beheaded a woman at the plant where he had been working, the big issue for me is the creation of fear.  Oh, I know that there are many who think the big question is whether or not this was terrorism, but that is not a real issue.  The nut job who attacked those poor women in a typically "brave" move was clearly a terrorist.  If there was any doubt, consider that according to the New York Times he had pictures of the World Trade Center burning after the 9-11 attack posted on his Facebook page along with an explanation why the attacks were actually America's fault.  Indeed, consider also that according to the latest reports this jerk had ties to radical Islamic clerics affiliated with al Qaeda.  In other words, he is a TERRORIST.

But let's get back to fear and its creation.  How many innocent Moslems are going to be viewed with suspicion now after this low-life goes nuts and attacks to middle aged women after being fired?  If there is a choice in hiring between a Moslem and a non-Moslem, how many employers will consider that difference in making a decision?  How many people will act out of fear to stay away from all Moslems?

In many respects, that reaction is the goal of the terrorists themselves.  After all, how better to radicalize the millions of Moslems in America than to turn them into the victims of fear?  It is also a reaction that we cannot afford as a people.  We cannot tolerate those who are and those who support Islamic terrorists.  Nevertheless, we also cannot characterize all Moslems as falling in this category.  I am not speaking of political correctness now.  Obviously, the main place to look for Islamic terrorists is among Moslems.  That means that there will certainly be profiling to find the crazies and stop them from taking further actions.  The rest of us, however, cannot allow the acts of a few to tarnish the lives of the many.  It is perhaps the most American thing that we can all do in the fight against terrorism.
