Time For Kerry to Go

It's time for Secretary of State John Kerry to go.  Here is the opening of a Sky News story about Kerry's statements in the UN Security Council yesterday:

US Secretary of State John Kerry said Iran has a role to play in the fight against Islamic State extremists.

Speaking in New York at a UN Security Council meeting, Mr. Kerry said: "The fact is there is a role for nearly every country in the world to play, including Iran, whose foreign minister is here with us today.

It is not easy to pick out the truly idiotic things that Kerry says.  Some much of what comes out of his mouth is dumb, that choosing the worst stuff is a seemingly endless task.  Nevertheless, telling the world that Iran ought to be part of the coalition fighting ISIS is perhaps the worst thing ever.  Let's examine why or, in the words of Kerry's predecessor, let's see "what difference does it make?"

1.  Iran is the mortal enemy of the USA.  That is not hyperbole; it is fact.  During the Iraq War, Iranian forces helped those who were killing American troops with arms, ammunition, bombs and training.  There were even some fighters who snuck into Iraq from Iran to fight American forces.  The Iranian leadership has made no attempt to disguise its view of the USA.  It was Iran that first called American the "Great Satan".  It was Iran that stormed the US embassy and held our diplomats hostage for over a year.  It was Iran that has supported terrorists both with money and with the granting of safe haven in the country.

2.  Iran's regional goal is to have Syria ruled by Assad and Iraq ruled by the Shiites with no other ethnic/religious group having any power.  These are not the goals of the USA.  We want an Iraq in which all ethnic/religious groups share power; in fact president Obama refused to take any action in support of Iraq and against ISIS until there was a new government in Baghdad that met that criteria.  We also want to see the murderer Assad (his forces have killed nearly 200,000 in Syria) out of power in Damascus.

3.  Both the USA and Iran want to see ISIS defeated, but not for the same reason.  We want to end the slaughter and mayhem inflicted on these area by the terrorist crazies who crucify and behead people in the name of their God.  Iran wants ISIS gone so that Iran's proxies can take control and impose their slightly different version of sharia law and rule from Teheran.

4.  Once Iranian forces are invited into Iraq or Syria, the only way to get them out will be in yet another fight.  Do we really want to set up the region for the war following the battle with ISIS?  I hope not.

5.  Iran is in the midst of building nuclear weapons, something that will cause all sorts of problems in the Middle East and around the world.  If Iran is brought into the coalition against ISIS, it will be essentially impossible for America to take any action to stop that nuclear program.  Now, it well may be that Obama and Kerry have already thrown in the towel with regard to the Iranian nuclear program.  If so, then it is a total disaster.  Kerry and Obama would tell us that they are still fighting against Iranian nukes.  Let's assume that this is not just another lie.  That means that there is no way that Iran ought to be brought into the coalition.

Obama is president, and we are stuck with him for another two years or so.  It is a national tragedy, but we will just have to survive it.  On the other hand, Kerry could easily be dumped as Secretary of State.  He could not be worse.  We need to interest Obama in making that change.  If anyone knows a transgendered person who is half Hispanic and half Native American with no meaningful experience in foreign policy, please send the name to Obama along with the suggestion that were this person to replace Kerry, Obama could be making history.

Kerry has got to go.  In two years in the office, Kerry has accomplished only one difficult task:  he has actually managed to make Hillary Clinton look good by comparison.
