The Terror Border

Yesterday, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, testified before a congressional committee.  He was asked if he knew of any attempts by terrorists to sneak across the border from Mexico into the USA.  Johnson said that no such incident came to mind.  That's really good.  For a long time, many have worried that with such a porous southern border, America was an easy target for terrorists coming from Mexico.

Then came the next question.  Johnson was asked about a group of men who were apprehended on September 10th coming across the border, men who were described as suspected terrorists.  Johnson admitted that he knew of the incident.

Let's stop here for a moment.  One week ago, four terror suspects were caught sneaking across the border on their way into America.  The suspicion is that they were coming here to carry out a terror attack.  Indeed, they were coming on the day before the 9-11 anniversary on which they could easily have attacked targets in Texas or California.  But the man at the top of DHS says that no incident of that sort comes to mind when asked by Congress.  Can that be the truth?  Is Johnson so out of the loop that he does not know about this?  Can it be that four terror suspects apprehended on the border is just so unimportant that the head of DHS is unaware of it?  Can it be that Johnson decided that it was better to lie to Congress than to admit that there might be terrorists coming over the border from Mexico?

What is going on here?  We deserve an answer.
