I happened upon an interview with Viggo Mortensen today. For those of you who don't know, Mortensen is an actor who had a significant role in the Lord of the Rings trilogy (Aragorn). He has been in some other roles, but nothing that major. The interview was published because there is a new film coming out with Mortensen in one of the larger parts.
So here's the question: the interview was all about Mortensen's political views. He started with a claim that "Fox News lies." Then he went on to lambaste Israel and its recent war with Hamas. But who cares what an actor has to say? He had nothing to back up his claims that Fox News lies, not even one example. He offered no suggestion as to what the Israelis should have done after Hamas had three teenage Israeli boys kidnapped and murdered or how Israel should have reacted when Hamas started launching hundreds of missiles at civilian sites throughout the southern half of that country. Basically, all Mortensen had to say was to repeat some simplistic, slogan-like statements. So I say again, who really cares what this guy has to say?
Obviously, there must be people who do care. Otherwise, no one would bother to write articles about his political views. But why do they care? Does his minor acting career make him an expert on any of these subjects? In truth, why does anyone care what any actor has to say? Even for a major actor like Leonardo DiCaprio, why do people care about his views on global warming? The man is a spokesman for the global warming alarmists, but he lives a life style that gives him a bigger carbon footprint than some third world countries. Nevertheless, there are still thousands of people who hang on his words. Why?
Would these same people rely on a medical opinion from an actor if they were sick? Would they take advice regarding investing in the stock market from someone whose only credential was as an actor? I don't think so. So why do they listen to these people spout off on political or scientific topics?
I really have no answer to offer. I just suggest that you ignore fools like Mortensen.
