Only Three Days

It never fails to amaze me just how out of touch the government is under president Obama.  The latest example is the flap about whether or not the USA is "at war" with ISIS.  Obama announced a goal to "degrade and destroy" ISIS by air strikes and allied ground forces that he projected would last at least three years.  In other words, Obama announced a war against ISIS.  The next day, John Kerry said it was not a war but a major antiterrorism operation.  Normally, the idea that Kerry would make such a statement could be chalked up to his lack of intelligence, but the Kerry position was clearly the official administration one.  Within a few hours, National Security Adviser Susan Rice was asked the same question and she also said that America was not at war with ISIS but rather was engaged in a major antiterrorism operation.  Now, say what you might about Susan Rice, no matter how little she knows about National Security, she certainly knows what the talking points of the day are and how to parrot them.

Let's stop here for a moment.  Think about the brilliance of the president of the United States and his advisers deciding that America would go to war with ISIS but would call it something else in order to avoid riling the left wing base of the Democrat party.  What does it say about these people that they actually thought the country would fail to recognize the reality that we are at war?  What does it say about the opinion these people hold of their supporters that they thought a distinction between "war" and "major antiterrorism operation" would mollify them?  It is truly astounding.  In truth, with this group, I am surprised they even went with "major antiterrorism operation"; I half expected them calling the fight with ISIS something like "non-workplace violence".

In any event, after three days of uproar over this silly attempt by Obama and the Obamacrats to call the war something other than a "war", the White House capitulated and now says that we are surely at war with ISIS.  I wonder what is coming next.  Will we get reports from Washington about how American "metal birds" are using major "boom booms" to "depopulate" ISIS bases?

If they can't even decide that we are really at war, how will Obama and his people ever decide how to win that war?
