President Obama has now agreed to let Iran get nuclear weapons. Oh, I know that all the talking points are being bandied about and all the BS is flying, but there is no way around the truth. President Obama has now agreed to let Iran get nuclear weapons. What does that mean?
The amazing thing is that so many people think that a nuclear armed Iran is not a big deal. China has nukes, North Korea has nukes. Pakistan has nukes. Nothing has happened. At least, that is what they tell us. But let's look at the difference.
Iran alone among all these countries has supported Islamic terrorism. The Pakistanis may have allowed terrorists to operate out of their northwest region adjacent to Afghanistan, but that is due more to an inability to control the terrorists than to an alliance to assist them. Iran has been the principal supporter of Hezbollah, Hamas and even al Qaeda for years.
Iran alone among these countries has actually launched military action against the USA in recent decades. More than half of the US casualties in Iraq were due to bombs manufactured in Iran and smuggled in to Iraq. The North Koreans may talk crazy, but they never, NEVER directly take on the USA. Iran, on the other hand, revels in striking American targets.
But many of the pundits say that now that they will have nuclear weapons, the Iranians would not dare to use them against us. The retaliation would be too awful to imagine. It would be the end of Iran. Except they are wrong. If the Iranians use nukes against America, we won't know it is them. Most likely, the Iranians would hide a bomb in a container ship and just sail it into Los Angeles or New York or some other port city before detonation. Then, after the blast, the Iranians would deny responsibility and say that they had nothing to do with the blast. In those circumstances, what would Obama do? Send John Kerry for another three year discussion? If those talks are anything like the last set, we would probably agree to pay compensation to the Iranians for ever saying in public that they had anything to do with the blast.
Once Iran has nukes, the battle for containment is over. The damage will come; the only question is when.
