Undermining American Sovereignty

President Obama has made his move to prevent Congress from refusing approval of the Iran deal.  The UN Security Council just approved the deal as written with the USA voting in favor of the deal.  In 90 days, after the IAEA verifies that Iran has taken a few minor steps, all members of the UN are to remove sanctions from Iran.  In a flash, the sanctions in place by the European Union, Russia, China and Japan will be gone.  In America, Congress will have to act to approve the removal of sanctions, but that is a nearly meaningless step.  Even were the Congress to reject the agreement, it would leave us as the only power with sanctions and with a leader who would no doubt refuse to enforce them while citing prosecutorial discretion.  Of course, were Congress to reject the deal, Iran would have the best of all worlds:  no meaningful sanctions and no agreements on nukes.

All Obama had to do was to wait before allowing a UN vote on the agreement until after Congress had spoken.  If two thirds of Congress really voted against this deal, then Obama should have respected the voice of the people enough to have realized that the deal was not one that America wants.  The sanctions would still all be in place and he could return to the negotiating table with Iran to try for something better than the travesty he got this time.

Instead, Obama acted to undermine Congress and American sovereignty.  It is more important to Obama that he "win" than that the American people accept what he is doing or that the sovereign rights of the USA be respected.  The sad thing is that we are not talking about some small domestic issue, but about the safety and security of our entire country.  It is too bad we have a president who does not understand the difference between those two.
