In what has to be the strangest story of the day, a team of humanoid robots designed and built by a team from the University of Pennsylvania beat the Iranian team of robots to win the world robotic soccer championship at a match in China. The robots are not remotely controlled by humans; they operate strictly on their own. To say the least, robots as of this point do not play soccer very well. One observer said the match looked like three year olds playing soccer for the first time. Still, the U of PA American team won the World Cup of robot soccer.
I can hardly stifle my excitement. Okay, I can control it. Nevertheless, it is good to see that we are still ahead in robot design. I do wonder how Iran got second place though. Maybe it was awarded to the country as part of Obama's nuclear deal.
