Hillary Clinton gave what was billed as a major economic speech today. I'm not sure why I did this, but I read the transcript of what she said. The most important thing about the speech is what Hillary did not say; she had no plan at all for how to grow the economy.
Let's take a step back for a moment. Hillary said that the key for America was to achieve economic growth and fairness at the same time. She said a lot about how she was going to clamp down on Wall Street if elected. She talked a lot about the problems facing average Americans as their household incomes have declined over the Obama years (although she never admitted that incomes had actually declined under Obama). The logical next point for Hillary to make was to tell the voters how she would go about achieving growth and fairness, but she just never got there.
It was much like listening to an Obama speech. You remember those speeches, the ones where Obama talks about how his plans have been blocked by Congress. Of course, Obama never proposed any plans for economic growth since the Stimulus in 2009 (and that failed miserably). In many respects, both Obama and Hillary give these "economic" speeches which are the equivalent of Dr. Martin Luther King giving his famous "I Have A Dream" speech but not telling anyone what that dream is. These speeches are like changing the Declaration of Independence to the Declaration of We're Not Sure What. It is like Dwight Eisenhower saying that the Allies were going to beat the Germans but failing to plan the invasion on D-Day. In other words, it is not enough.
Hillary has to come forward with an actual plan for the economy. If she does not, she does not deserve anyone's vote.
