Ivana Ignore This, But I Just Can't

I happened to see a snippet of The Kelly File in which Megyn Kelly interviewed the "reporter" from the Daily Beast who wrote the story about statements in Donald Trump's divorce proceedings 30 years ago that his wife felt "violated" by him.  That turned into claims of "rape" in the Daily Beast.

I had hoped to ignore this story; it is just silly.  On top of that, I see no reason to talk about Donald Trump who is more carnival barker than presidential candidate.  Nevertheless, after watching the so-called reporter who wrote the piece, I have no choice; I have to write about it.

First let's look at the facts.
1.  This was a divorce proceeding.  Anyone who has ever been through one of those as a participant or an attorney knows that they are not the most truthful of exercises.  There are more false charges in a divorce case than on a fraudulent credit card bill.

2.  Trump's first wife, Ivana, who was the one who supposedly made the charges 30 years ago, says today that the story is "without merit" and then she went on to say that she thought Donald would make a great president.  So much for the story.

3.  Despite this, the kid who wrote the story for the Daily Beast stands behind his work.  He says that since Trump called some of the Mexicans who are illegal immigrants "rapists", that it is important to investigate claims of rape made against the Donald.

Put that together, and you get a major batch of BS from the Daily Beast.  After all, if the Daily Beast is going to rehash charges of rape against Trump which are clearly bogus, why isn't it covering all those charges of rape and sexual harassment by myriads of women against Hillary Clinton's husband, Bill Clinton.  We know that Bill used his position as president to get sex from Monica Lewinsky, an intern.  We also know that Bill was accused of rape by Juanita Broderick.  We also know that Bill was accused of making unwanted sexual advances by Paula Jones and Cathleen Willey.  There are more, too, but the point is a simple one.  Bill Clinton has all manner of accusations against him, but the Daily Beast worries about a phony one from a divorce proceeding involving Trump.  It is the height of hypocrisy.

By now it ought to be clear that I don't like Trump.  I believe, however, that the man is entitled to coverage in the media that is at least fair.  The Daily Beast can slant its coverage (and it will) towards the Democrats; that much is a given.  But leveling phony charges of rape is a dangerous and destructive way for the media to proceed.  It should not be tolerated.
