With all the news yesterday, there was little coverage of the video of the California official of Planned Parenthood negotiating the sale of body parts from aborted fetuses. The video was taken by undercover operatives of a pro-life group who were posing as a medical research company and possible buyer for the body parts. The video shows the Planned Parenthood official explaining how the body parts are harvested in late term abortions which sound like the illegal partial birth abortions. The official also talks about the compensation to be received for different types of organs. It is gruesome, to say the least. More than that, however, the conduct discussed is illegal. Sale of human organs is illegal. Partial birth abortions are illegal.
So what has the reaction been? Predictable is the only word for it. CBS ran a story about the video under a headline announcing the Planned Parenthood had been "targeted" by anti-abortion activists. That's right; in the eyes of CBS News, Planned Parenthood which may well have violated the law on a continuing and major fashion is a victim who has been targeted. At least, CBS covered the story. Many other media outlets did not even bother.
The really sad thing here is that this whole mess ought not engender controversy. Abortion is legal in the USA. Unless there is an amendment to the Constitution (which is not going to happen any time soon, if ever), women will be free to get abortions during the first half of their pregnancies. According to the same laws, once the baby is viable so that the child becomes a person, abortions are supposed to be severely restricted. In addition, sale of body parts is illegal; the reasons for that law are very clear. All of these laws taken together just need to be enforced. If someone breaks the law, even if that someone is Planned Parenthood, there need to be consequences. It is not a difficult issue; it is obvious to most people.
Some time in the next six months when Hillary Clinton next gives an interview, someone should ask her about this subject. Let's hear if Hillary supports illegal partial birth abortions and sales of baby body parts.
