The Circus Came To Town; Now It Just Won't Leave

The 2016 election is almost 16 months away; there's plenty of time to consider the potential candidates and no need for urgency now.  Unfortunately, no one seems to have told most of the candidates this news.  Just look at recent events:

1.  Martin O'Malley was booed at a Netroots convention of far left internet activists yesterday.  His sin was saying aloud "Black lives matter.  White lives matter.  All lives matter."  This statement cause chaos and condemnation from the crowd.  Think about that.  We had a gathering of Americans at which the idea that all lives matter was booed.  We haven't seen that type of callous disregard of the lives of any group since the end of the KKK as a force in country over 50 years ago.  It is both racist and anti-humanitarian.  O'Malley, however, recognized it as, by far, the dominant view of the leftist Democrats he was addressing and he apologized for his "insensitivity" in actually saying that white lives matter.  If there ever was a reason to eliminate a candidate from consideration, this was it.  This event also tells us who the left of the Democrat party really are.

2.  Donald Trump had another of his famous foot in mouth moments in Iowa yesterday.  Trump came after John McCain for some statements he had made against Trump.  That's fine; if Trump wants to demonstrate that he is thin skinned, okay.  But Trump crossed the line.  The moderator of the event asked if Trump was concerned saying negative things about a national hero.  Trump responded that McCain is not a hero; he just got captured.  Trump went on to say that he like the people who did not get captured.  The audience seemed stunned, but then it started to boo.  Trump, however, as is his custom, did not backtrack or apologize.  He repeated his denigration of McCain's service and his heroism as a POW in North Vietnam.  Then he later said that McCain had allowed mistreatment of veterans.  So consider the facts for a while.  McCain spent five years as a POW in terrible conditions.  He gave up a good part of his health in the process.  He was captured when his plane was hit by a missile over North Vietnam.  He certainly did not allow himself to be captured.  And, as for veterans, McCain is one of the few persistent voices on Capitol Hill demanding better conditions in the VA system.  In other words, Trump is just wrong and he won't admit it.

Here too is an event that disqualifies another candidate from consideration.  This is not O'Malley kowtowing to an ideology of racial hatred.  This is Trump demonstrating that even in the face of hard facts, he won't change his position.  We already have a president who lives in delusions; we cannot afford another.

3.  Hillary Clinton showed again that she is compelled to control everything to the point that it could be described as a psychosis.  Over the weekend in Iowa, there was an event attended by both Hillary and Bernie Sanders.  When the media went to interview some of the Hillary supporters outside the hall, they were told that no such interviews were possible.  Hillary had cut off access to the group of young people in front of the hall demonstrating in her support.  Think about that one.  We already have Hillary being secretive.  She does not appear in public where she might get a question that has not been pre-approved by the campaign.  She does not talk to the media as a rule.  Hillary wouldn't even release her email to the State Department and set up her own server so that no one but she would have access to it.  She won't take positions on most issues of the day.  She is compelled to control everything and she is afraid to let America know what she thinks.  But to tell supporters that they too cannot speak to the media?  That's crazy!  Indeed, the only possible explanation I can come up with for that behavior is that the spontaneous demonstrators were actually hired actors who were brought in to make it seem that Hillary has support.  No crowd of college students would give up the chance to be interviewed by the press, no matter what the campaign said.  They just wouldn't do that.  Of course, if they were being paid to pretend to support Hillary, then they would play their part as directed by their boss.

I think that this too is a terrible blow to Hillary.  It does not rise to the level of the O'Malley and Trump stuff, but it is bad nevertheless.  Hillary obviously thinks she can fool America with her ruse and get away with it.  This sort of behavior shows that Hillary actually has contempt for the average voter and his or her intellect.  She thinks that appearances matter more than facts.  It is another bad indicator for the abilities of a potential future president.

That's just one weekend and we had three pivotal moments.  If it keeps going this way, we may have some clarity in the race soon.
