Thing keep getting worse for Hillary Clinton. The latest is the news that her highest aide, Huma Abedin, is under investigation. At issue are (1) if Huma used her position in the State Department to do favors for her other employers at the time, and (2) if Huma was paid for work and expenses that were not properly payable by the government. The Inspector General of the State Department has apparently been investigating these points since 2013.
At first glance, this may all sound like a problem for Huma Abedin, but not for Hillary Clinton, but then the rest of the story emerges. Huma was Hillary's chief aide in the State Department. At the same time, however, Huma was also working for the Clinton Foundation and for a consulting firm called Teneo Strategies (which also has very close ties to the Clintons.) That unusual arrangement was put in place at the behest of Hillary Clinton. Huma then proceeded to allegedly use her State Department position to help friends and clients of both the Clinton Foundation and Teneo. It has been reported that during her time at State, Huma sent over 5000 emails discussing the wants of the chairman of Teneo alone. There is no way that she kept the positions separate.
Then there's the question of vacation pay and travel expenses that State paid but which may have been improper. Those expenses are less likely to be put at the feet of Hillary Clinton, but the conflicted loyalties of her highest aide will not go away so easily.
