In a front page report, the New York Times announced that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas sometimes copies sections of the parties' briefs to put in his opinions. Oh, the horror!
It's important to note that as a lawyer in a case, the highest compliment a judge can pay to you is to use a section of your brief in his or her decision. The lawyers want the judge to like and use what is in the brief. THAT'S WHY YOU SUBMIT THE BRIEF!!! What Thomas does is exactly what he is supposed to do.
It is also important to note that in the analysis done by the Times, Thomas copied sections of briefs for just under 12% of his language. Other justices were closer to using the language in the briefs 11.5% of the time, a fact the Times buried at the very end of a lengthy article.
So we have the Times writing a hit piece on Justice Thomas for doing exactly what he is supposed to do very slightly more than the other justices who all do it too. Why is this? The simple answer is that the New York Times is racist. I don't mean that as a joke. The New York Times is racist in its coverage of Justice Thomas. If Thomas were white, none of this would be news. The Times doesn't like him because he is black and he doesn't follow their political philosophy. For the Times, a white man is allowed to disagree with them, but a black man cannot. The Times, you see, thinks it knows better what blacks need and should think that the African Americans themselves. It is liberal white racism in one of its purest forms.
