Let's Answer The Silliest Question on Immigration

Okay, get ready now.  Everyone be sure to gasp as you read this next question.  Ready?

Candidate ___________, you say that you want to end illegal immigration.  But what would you do with regard to children who were born here to illegal immigrant parents?  They are US citizens.  Would you deport US citizens?

Did you all gasp?  Imagine deporting US citizens.  What could be harsher?

So let's answer this question.  The simple answer is "NO".  American citizens are not subject to deportation under the immigration laws, and it's time for those laws to be enforced.  That does not mean, however, that the parents of these children get to stay if they otherwise would be deported.  Most likely, those parents would take their children with them to whatever country they go to, but that would be their choice.  If the parents could make arrangements for the kids to stay with another family member, those children could stay.  Remember, however, the parents are here illegally.  There would be no issue regarding the kids without the parents causing it by having the children in the USA.

Now when these children get to be 18 years old, if the immigration laws have not changed by that time, then they could sponsor the return of their parents to the USA as legal immigrants.  I doubt that this will be much of a problem by then, however.  As for now, however, the presence of a so called "anchor baby" should not be allowed to act as an anchor.
