A Poll That Matters

Quinnipiac is out today with a very important poll.  The question posed by the pollster was this:  "Do you support or oppose the nuclear deal with Iran?"  The results showed that 57% opposed the deal and 28% supported it.  (15% had no opinion.)

These are staggering numbers.  By better than two to one Americans oppose Obama's deal with the mullahs.  Think what that means.

1.  The deal is a major problem for the Democrats and their nominee in 2016.  It is already clear that for the deal to survive in Congress, it will require strong support from the Democrats.  Republicans are lining up to oppose the agreement.  Hillary Clinton has already endorsed the deal.  In 2016, it will be undeniable that the Iran deal is owned by the Democrats.

2.  In the event that Iran is found to be cheating on the deal next year, it will be a major debacle for the Democrats.  The GOP will point to Clinton and the Democrats and say that they cannot be trusted with national security since they couldn't recognize how bad the Iran deal was.  There will be no viable answer.

3.  In the event that Iran follows the deal through 2016, the Democrats won't get much benefit from it.  The Republicans will be able to discuss the likelihood that Iran is secretly cheating and there is no way to disprove that.  On top of that, the public is predisposed to believe the worst of the Iranians.

4.  With numbers like those in today's poll, the Iran deal will hurt the Dems no matter what happens.
