Three unarmed US Marines aboard a high speed train in France stopped a terrorist attack this afternoon. A man went into the bathroom on the train and came out with an assault weapon and opened fire on the passengers, wounding three. The marines were sitting nearby and immediately jumped the shooter and took him down. By overpowering the shooter, these marines prevented a bloodbath since the shooter had over 200 round of ammunition and a knife. The shooter is a Moroccan who "is known to the French security services" according to the story in the Daily Mail. It seems safe to assume that this is yet another Islamic terrorist attack in Europe.
The three marines are heroes. Instead of diving for cover, they risked their lives to save their fellow passengers.
My guess, however, is that president Obama or someone in his administration will find something that they did wrong and try to punish them for it. You know, like the soldier who used his own weapon to stop a terror attack recently and then was charged with having a firearm on the base improperly. Who knows, with the way things are in Washington these days, the marines may be charged with damaging relations with ISIS. Nothing that Obama does would surprise me.
No matter what happens, however, these marines are heroes and they deserve our thanks. I can't give more details since their names have not yet been released, but here's a big THANK YOU anyway.
