The UN representative says that he is "horrified" by the attacks on civilians in Syria. Is he kidding?
The Syrian Civil War began three plus years ago. Since the war began over a quarter of a million Syrians have died, a larger number have been wounded, and over ten million people have been forced to flee their homes. Most of that happened long ago. So NOW the UN expresses "horror"?
It's amazing that the world body could ignore the death and destruction in Syria for so long as more and more people died, but now that the number of deaths has actually declined, the UN is running in to express outrage.
How about an expression of outrage that ISIS is using mustard gas on civilians and soldiers in Iraq? Mustard gas was outlawed by a treaty nearly 100 years ago after it inflicted enormous casualties during World War I. We know that ISIS just used this prohibited weapons on the Kurds in a recent battle in Iraq. So far, the UN has done nothing. So far, the USA has done nothing. So far, in fact, no one has done anything. Maybe we have to wait until ISIS uses mustard gas for 5 years until the UN expresses horror and outrage (but still does nothing.)
The hypocrisy of the UN and of the many nations involved with the Middle East is staggering.
(By the way, try this thought experiment: imagine that tomorrow Israel were to use mustard gas on ISIS in southern Syria. Just imagine what the reaction around the world would be.)
