I just saw the third article that explains that tonight's GOP debates are "all about Trump." That's nonsense pushed by people who have an agenda to make the Republicans look as if they are in turmoil.
Donald Trump is a candidate for now. He may gain support moving forward, or he may lose it. He is just one candidate and tonight, he will need to display that he is knowledgeable and intellectually capable of dealing with the issues a president faces. But guess what? That is the same thing that could be said about every other candidate on the stage. (OK, to be fair neither Pataki nor Gilmore could lose support unless their immediate families decide to vote for someone else.) The debate is about all the candidates.
The one thing that really does come across from tonight's debate is this: there are many Republicans who could be president. I don't mean there are a lot of candidates. I mean there are many who could actually do the job. The contrast with the Democrats is astounding. The Dems are old and tired and their ideas are tired. Right now, Democrats have a choice between a women who lacks any personal accomplishments and who is no under criminal investigation by an Attorney General of her own party, an elderly socialist whose views seem stuck in the 1960s counter culture, a retired governor whose state rejected him just last November and a former senator who is running just to sell a few more books. To be fair, there could also be added to the mix a man who has run for president twice before but who was never able to get above 2% in any primary or caucus during either effort. He may be vice president of the USA, but as a previous occupant of that office said, the vice presidency is not worth a pitcher of warm spit.
In contrast to the Democrats, the GOP has Walker, Bush, Rubio, Kasich, Fiorina, and many more who could actually occupy the White House.
