A Different Kind of "Bimbo Eruption"

Way back in 1992, the Clinton campaign had a group designated to deal with what were called "Bimbo eruptions".  Those were moments when one woman or another came forward to reveal an affair with Bill Clinton or to charge Clinton with making unwanted sexual advances.  Interestingly enough, the group dealing with these bimbo eruptions was headed by Hillary Clinton.  Hillary's goal was to destroy the reputation of these women so that their claims would be discredited too.  Even the name "bimbo eruption" was designed to indicate that the women involved were, for lack of a better word, sluts.

Now that we are in 2015, there is a new kind of bimbo eruption, but the goal of destroying the reputation of the woman involved is still the same.  After the GOP debate, Donald Trump tweeted that Megyn Kelly, the Fox News anchor who was one of the debate moderators is a bimbo.  That is the word Trump used.  Trump went on to attack Kelly on other grounds unrelated to her questioning of him.

It was disgusting in 1992 when Clinton attacked women because they had the nerve to tell the truth about his womanizing, some of it with unwilling female participants.  It is equally disgusting today when Trump responds to some tough questioning by Kelly with personal attacks on her character.

I don't expect Trump to speak well of Kelly after that debate, but there really is no place for Trump to make these sorts of personal attacks.  Indeed, I thought that Kelly and the other moderators went out of their way to try to bring Trump and all the other candidates down.  Their questions were mostly "gotcha" attempts rather than efforts to bring out information that the voters could find useful.  Still, the candidates need to rise above this; Trump is the only one who could not.  It was a major mistake on his part.
