Remember "honesty is the best policy"? The saying has been around for a long, long time. Benjamin Franklin included the adage in Poor Richard's Alamanack in the middle of the 18th century. Most folks who grew up in the USA in the last half century have heard the saying. Nevertheless, somehow president Obama must have missed it. Instead of trying honesty in dealing with the American people, Obama has doubled down on deception. After being exposed for misleading America about the ability to keep our insurance policies, Obama did not come clean and admit his deceit. Nope, Obama instead is trying to lie his way out of telling the original lie.
Yesterday, Obama appeared in Virginia before an audience at OFA, the permanent Obama campaign apparatus. Here is what he said:
"If you have or had one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law and you really liked that plan, what we said was you can keep it if it hasn't changed since the law passed."
Of course, the problem is that anyone who was not in a coma for the last four years know this is not true. Here, in fact, is what Obama actually said:
"That means that no matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you'll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what."
To make matters worse, this quote of what Obama actually said was not a one time thing. Obama said it over and over and over and over. I saw a video compilation of 27 different times that Obama said this. It is probably the most well known quote that ever came out of Obama's mouth.
So Obama went out there Monday night and tried to lie his way out of responsibility for the lies he told in the past. The problem, however, is that Obama is not a five year old; he is the president of the United States of America.
An even worse bit of relevant information was pointed out by Ron Fournier of the National Journal today. Fournier noted that last night's lie by Obama was something he read. It was not an off the cuff statement. It was a prepared statement put together at the White House. Obama and his staff agreed ahead of time that the best response to being caught in a lie was to tell another lie.
How can we believe anything that this man says?
