Juan Williams has a new article out in which he advises Republican candidates that their attacks on Medicare are not going to work politically. Of course, there's a problem with that position. Simply put, the GOP candidates are not attacking Medicare. So why is Juan using this old attack line of the Democrats against the Republicans? The answer is easy: it worked in the past. Generations of seniors were told that Republicans wanted to get rid of Social Security or Medicare by Democrats and their surrogates in the media. Anxious seniors then voted for the Democrats. That line of attack became less and less effective as Republicans held the White House and never did anything to get rid of the programs. Now, however, after seven years of Obama, the Democrats and their media supporters like Williams are trying out this old chestnut again in the hope that today's seniors can be worried by these false attacks into supporting them.
People say just about anything during the course of political campaigns. Nevertheless, I still think it is despicable that Democrats and their hack supporters in the media think it appropriate to scare seniors with lies. It's just wrong.
