Over night, there was a terrorist attack in the capital of the African nation of Burkina Faso. It's safe to say that most people don't know where Burkina Faso is, and they probably never even heard of it. Nevertheless, the African country is part of the coalition that has been fighting Islamic terrorism in the northern and western part of Africa. In the attack, more than 20 hotel guests and employees were killed when the terrorists stormed and took over a hotel in the center of the capital. The attack ended with the police storming the hotel and killing the terrorists.
The terror attack is just the latest in a long string of murderous onslaughts by the Islamic terrorists around the world. It comes as just one of the major attacks taking place within a week of president Obama telling us in the State of the Union that we are winning the fight against Islamic terrorism (although he would not use those words.) Clearly, Obama is wrong.
For me, however, the key point about the attack in Burkina Faso is not that it shows Obama to be misguided or dishonest. That is essentially a given for anyone who pays attention to current events. No, the most surprising thing for me is the gloss that the media is trying to put on this horrific terror attack. In multiple stories, I have seen the attack described as "revenge" against the government of Burkina Faso for taking part in the anti-terror campaign. By that standard, the fault for the terror attack lies not with the disgusting thugs who burst into the hotel and started shooting down innocent civilians. No, the terrorists were just acting in response to the actions of the government in Burkina Faso to try to stop such terror attacks. The fault is in opposing terrorist acts.
That media slant on the story is outrageous. I realize that "outrageous" is a word that is overused these days for a whole host of reasons. Nevertheless, the only fair description of a media that blames the victims for a terror attack by the Islamic crazies is just that: OUTRAGEOUS.
