Any moment now, president Obama is about to issue a new executive action to advance the cause of gun control. When terrorists attacked in San Bernardino, Obama's immediate response was to talk about the need for more gun control. The junior senator from Connecticut, Democrat Chris Murphy, never lets more than a day or so go by without tweeting something about the need for more gun laws. Hillary Clinton has come out strongly in favor of additional gun laws. Essentially every Democrat in office or seeking office is pushing for more gun laws. So now would be a good time to take a look at the real truth about federal gun laws.
Here is the key point. Obama and the Democrats talk about gun laws, but THEY DON'T ENFORCE THEM!!! The reality is that during Obama's time in office, the federal government has never once prosecuted the number of gun crimes as was the case in the year with the least such prosecutions during the previous presidential term (2005-2008). Even worse, during the Obama years, the number of federal prosecutions for violating gun laws have steadily declined and are now down by roughly 25%. These figures are readily available. No one, however, seems to cover the truth.
Why would Obama talk again and again about the need for more gun laws when he doesn't enforce violations of the laws already on the books? The answer is simple. Obama wants a political issue; he doesn't want gun problems to go away. It is truly disgusting.
