The State of the Union

I couldn't watch the speech.  I mean I tried, I really tried, but it was just too much to expect of me.  I turned it on three times, but then president Obama said yet another of his supposed points and I had to turn it off.  In the end, I read the text.  It was much faster than having to sit through that morass.

It was an unimpressive effort.  How could he not mention that Iran had taken ten navy sailors captive that day?  How could he speak about terrorism and ISIS but not mention San Bernardino?  How could he not discuss why it is after all these years of supposed "recovery" that the median household income has fallen?  He had no problem talking about that supposedly great recovery.  But he said nothing to all those tens of millions of folks who struggle more and more on an income of less and less.  Those are the same people who face higher health insurance costs, some through increased premiums and others through greatly increased co-pays and deductibles.  I mean how many millions of people are there across the country who can no longer get medical treatment because although they have insurance, they are so strapped that they cannot afford to cover the deductibles and co-pays?  But not a word was uttered about that.

There was no plan to deal with ISIS except to tell us that they are not a real threat.  Tell that to the thousands of people who have been murdered at the hands of ISIS.  Sure, most of the dead are not Americans, but we know that ISIS would like to add us to the casualty lists.  It was a wonder that Obama did not tell us that ISIS is just the jayvee team again.  He either still believes that or he prefers to just lie.

In that entire speech there was only one truly good thing:  it was Obama's last.
