President Obama is going to order new gun laws into effect today in a ceremony at the White House amid great hoopla. The media will no doubt be there to celebrate the moment. But consider these few facts:
1. None of the new laws (rules) put into effect by Obama would have stopped the killings in San Bernardino, Newtown, Charleston, or any of the other high profile mass shootings of the last five years.
2. None of the new laws would have made it any more difficult for the shooters in those mass shootings to carry our their crimes.
3. President Obama does not have the authority to change the laws in this way. Only Congress can change the laws.
4. The federal gun laws already on the books are not being enforced by Obama and his administration. Prosecutions for violating the gun laws are down roughly 25% under Obama.
So, we have a president who won't enforce the gun laws taking actions he has no power to take which wouldn't have made any difference in preventing the mass shootings that he says are the impetus for his action. No wonder the media and the Democrats want us to celebrate.
The real question is this: Is this a joke?
